Unicompartmental (Partial) Knee Replacement — Rehabilitation Protocol

Phase 0: Day 0–1
Goals: Pain control, safe transfers and gait.
Weight-bearing: As tolerated with aids.
Exercises: Quads sets, ankle pumps, early range.
Phase 1: Weeks 1–2
Goals: Independent walking with aids, flexion 0–110, full extension.
Exercises: Heel slides, bike as comfort allows, sit-to-stand, step-ups, glute and hip work.
Phase 2: Weeks 2–6
Goals: Wean aids, normalise gait, build strength and balance.
Exercises: Leg press within comfort, bridges, split squats, stair practice, longer bike sessions.
Phase 3: Weeks 6–12
Goals: Low impact fitness, functional strength.
Activities: Cycling, swimming, golf, reformer Pilates, hiking.
Higher impact: Consider light jogging for selected patients after review and testing.
Red flags: Fever, calf pain or swelling, increasing wound discharge, chest symptoms. Seek urgent review.
