Orthopaedic Surgeon, Knee Surgery

Important: Some patients have additional procedures. Your plan may differ by brace settings, weight-bearing and range targets.

This document provides a step-by-step rehabilitation pathway following medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, and should be followed under the guidance of a physiotherapist. It covers early priorities such as swelling control, restoring range of motion and quadriceps activation, then progresses through bracing and weight-bearing guidance, strength and core/hip control, balance and proprioception, and later-stage conditioning. The final phases focus on agility, plyometrics, and sport-specific preparation, with progression tailored to your symptoms, movement control (avoiding knee valgus and hip internal rotation), and functional milestones rather than a fixed timeline.

Your plan may differ. Follow the instructions you receive from Dr Shatrov.
